Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Setting: MAT Addiction Clinic

Job Purpose

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to support individuals on their recovery journey. This role focuses on providing individual and group counseling, developing treatment plans, and helping patients achieve recovery goals. The counselor will serve as a vital support system for individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring behavioral health disorders.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders

• Develop treatment plans and measurable recovery goals

• Teach coping and relapse-prevention strategies

• Facilitate group therapy sessions, including:

  • Gender-specific groups

  • Substance-specific groups (alcohol, stimulants, cannabis, etc.)

  • Co-occurring disorder groups

• Prepare court progress updates and reports

• Coordinate referrals and aftercare planning

• Complete documentation accurately within 3 days of patient encounters

• Communicate patient progress with physicians and clinical staff

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team

• Participate in staff meetings and quality improvement activities

• Maintain required licensure and certifications

• Attend continuing education and training

• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a Human Services field from an accredited institution

• Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) in Vermont

• Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in Vermont

• Experience working with addiction populations, preferably in group settings

• Knowledge of CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, or similar modalities

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• EMR experience preferred

• Commitment to ethical, culturally competent care

• Strong organizational and time-management skills

Work Details

• Location: 220 Holiday Drive, Suite A, White River Junction, VT

• Caseload: Approximately 5-10 patients per day

• Start Date: By December 1

• Shift Differential: Not applicable

• On-Call / Weekends: None
