Description
The Director of Laboratory Services is responsible for planning, achieving, and reporting related to DRH Health's inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and outreach laboratory services. The Director oversees the effective management and growth of these business areas as part of a hybrid commercial laboratory approach and ensures the competence of a workforce that consistently meets regulatory requirements and strives to exceed safety, efficiency, and service standards. The Director serves as a resource and communication link on laboratory-related issues and opportunities for senior management. In performing assigned roles and duties, the Director of Laboratory Services will consistently meet DRH Health's leadership expectations and inspire the highest standards of professional behavior, teamwork, and performance throughout the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS): Manage and coordinate the activities, operations, and staff of the laboratory in all locations. Mentor, coach, and lead laboratory staff in all areas of policy compliance, lab policy and protocol, Service Excellence, regulatory compliance, and accrediting standards applicable to their technical performance in their daily work. Direct and supervise staff in the technical performance of their daily work. Schedule staff appropriate for coverage of needs of hospital census and clinic operations. Oversee proper time and leave reporting for laboratory team members. Effectively communicate team member performance expectations, fairly evaluate performance, communicate met and unmet expectations, and assist team members in areas of improvement. Manage lab and hospital blood bank to ensure full compliance with established Medical Center standards, policies, procedures, statutes, and state and federal regulatory requirements, codes, and related applicable laws. Interact effectively with all staff within the hospital, vendors, and regulatory agencies. Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and company policy. Comply with all safety and health standards, and all rules, regulations, and orders which are applicable to the individual's own position, actions, and conduct. Develop policies, procedures, and budgets, overseeing their implementation to ensure the overall quality of laboratory services in accordance with administrative directives and regulatory agency requirements. Ensure conformance with applicable accreditation, licensing, and quality assurance standards. Plan and develop program components, including facilities, equipment, and personnel requirements. Provide an environment for continuous improvement in quality and performance. Design, develop, implement, evaluate, and revise systems to improve cost-effective service delivery. Oversee effective coordination of laboratory services with nursing and other patient care services, other departments, and medical staff. Research, analyze, recommend, and pursue to completion new laboratory services clients and partnerships to expand DRH Health's laboratory business in support of organizational objectives. Evaluate and recommend new analyses, equipment, and technology related to laboratory services. Prepare reports, statistics, and surveys to monitor and document laboratory services and functions. Develop and implement laboratory services budgets and monthly budget variance analysis and associated reporting. Facilitate programs and partnerships to support community health and wellness initiatives through the continuum of care at all access points. Improve performance of quality metrics related to nationally recognized organizations such as Joint Commission, Leapfrog, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and other measures related to the prevention of complications of care, including adherence to national patient safety goals, prevention of falls and pressure ulcers, achieving departmental and organizational strategic goals, actively improving patient satisfaction, facilitating the prevention of infections, and decreasing in Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI), Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), and Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI) incidences and others determined by leadership as related to job responsibilities. Ensure compliance with Hand washing Adherence Initiatives (HAI). Implement strategies to increase the percentage of overall patient and team member satisfaction annually. Successfully achievement of organizational goals. Successfully complete leadership training and demonstrate competency in leadership. Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings. Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory. This position requires respirator and fit testing. Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals. Must adhere to, and promote, safety protocols at all times. Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values. Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations. Perform additional duties as required or delegated. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science. Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills with information technology associated with the position including a familiarity with email, word processing, and spreadsheets. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to effectively multi-task and be self-directed. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position. Education and/or Experience: Five (5) years professional level experience in a medical laboratory, including one (1) year of supervisory experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Detail oriented with proven ability to multitask. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Current certification as a medical laboratory scientist, cytology technologist or histology technologist (ASCP or equivalent). FEMA ICS 100, 200, and 700 certifications required; May have up to 90 days from day of hire or transfer to obtain. For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained. Safety-Sensitive Position - This is a "Safety-Sensitive" Position as defined by Oklahoma law.
